Jaipur ISIEM declaration signed to support the Newborn Screening in the country

Jaipur, September, 2024.

ISIEM 2024 conference was organised at Jaipur from 22nd -24th September 2024 at Rajasthan international  Convention centre with the theme of IEM- Ushering in the Therapeutic Era.

As a part of the pre-conference deliberations, the President ISIEM Dr Seema Kapoor emphasised the role of prevention and early diagnosis of these disorders- wherein newborn screening plays a significant role.

In a preconference meeting, where representatives from 5 states, vis- Delhi, Kerala, Goa, MP and UP were present, ISIEM was privileged to inculcate the pledge for promotion recommendation of NBS as a public health measure. With this a Jaipur ISIEM declaration was signed to support the commitment and make a plea towards implementation of Universal Newborn Screening in the country. The following stakeholders were present Dr Seema Kapoor, President ISIEM, Dr Madhulika Kabra, Professor and Head Pediatrics, AIIMS New Delhi, Dr Sunita Birjaniya Mahay, Secretary ISIEM, Ms Anuja Prakash, State Nodal officer for Child Health, Delhi, Dr Bhavna Dhingra, Professor, Pediatrics, AIIMS Bhopal, Dr Himani Yadav, Deputy Director Child Health, NHM, MP (Joined online), Dr Rahul, State Nodal officer for Child Health, Kerala, Dr Ankur Singh, Professor and Head Pediatrics, BHU Varanasi, UP, Dr Priyanshu Mathur- Organising Secretary, ISIEM, Jaipur, Dr. Lokesh, organising co secretary  and ISIEM, Dr Manisha Goyal, Conference co-ordinator, ISIEM. Online participants were Dr. Shubha Phadk , Proff & Head, Department of Genetics, SGPGI & Dr. Usha Dave, Dr. Amit Gupta from MAMC & Dr. Neerja Gupta from AIIMS

The declaration was signed to boost the efforts for towards propagating universal implementation of NBS across the country in both government and private sectors. This will go a long way in early detection, prevention of subsequent affected children, and reduction of morbidity and mortality associated with these disorders.
